THE CHALLENGE

A North Sea operator required clean fuel for their diesel generators during their shutdown. Typical contaminations can include bacteria, sludge, water ingress and metal particles caused by rust within the pipework. Failure to clean the fuel properly would have caused the back up generators to fail resulting in a black out on the platform yielding heavy operational delays and costly financial backlash.

HOW WE HELPED:

OSSO provided and installed the necessary equipment while one of our engineers was assigned to oversee the operation. A high-volume disk stack separator was installed effectively removing the dirty diesel from the storage tank bottom and returning clean diesel into the top of the tank.

To ensure optimum results samples were taken at regular intervals and analysed for water content on board the platform. The analysis was for ISO spec 4406 and was carried out by our engineer using our inhouse fuel analyser . We carried out the analysis process until the diesel was judged clean.

STRONG RESULTS:

The process and equipment undertaken by the OSSO team ensured that the diesel was cleaned to the optimum level possible. The results showed that the water content in the diesel was reduced from 200ppm to 40ppm and the ISO 4406 fuel spec went from 24/19/13 to 16/14/10 which is deemed better than the world fuel spec 18/16/13. The work carried out was completed without the use filters therefore removed the need to create another waste stream and with it further consumable costs.

·  Reduced water content levels in diesel from 200ppm to 40ppm

·  Removed the need for additional waste streams

·  Ensured 100% usage throughout shutdown
