THE CHALLENGE

Our client was working to a lump sum well delivery and therefore needed to ensure all KPIs would be achieved and equipment operated without incident.

When downhole temperatures exceeded the maximum operating temperature of the MWD this resulted in increased non-productive time (NPT) resulting in the need to have a reliable and efficient mud cooling system that provided the downhole tool every opportunity to operate within its maximum operating rated temperature.

HOW WE HELPED:

OSSO’s team delivered and installed a land rig closed loop mud cooler system on the long reach lateral hole sections, where the temperatures exceeded 330ºF. The mud cooling system maintained the downhole temperature that enabled the MWD to operate safely and within its maximum operating temperatures. Throughout the duration of the project, we monitored and evaluated hourly the readings from both the mud cooler and drilling parameters to ensure the equipment was working to its optimum level at all times. The biproduct of cooling the mud at surface improved the overall working environment for the rig crew (HSE).

STRONG RESULTS:

Our approach significantly helped our client realise safety, environmental, operational and commercial gains. Improving drilling efficiency by effective mud temperature control enabled the hole sections drilled to be completed in a reduced number of days drilling, which equated to a 40% decrease in round trips per section drilled.  Additionally, the cost of tool damage beyond repair (DBR) reduced by 95%*.

·  Reduced days drilling NPT per section drilled

·  40% decrease in round trips per section drilled

·  95% reduction in tool DBR

·  Improved surface working environment for rig crew

·  Increased lifecycle of BOP elastomers and mud pump liners
